Selena
She was singer performer designer who broke through the barriers of the world of music. She was at once an American-Mexican traditional performer who merged both worlds in a singular way--and delivered amazing Tejano music to a mainstream crowd. Similar to how there are many who mourn a superstar who passed away too early, her passing was not a good time and ended an energizing career. In order to prevent her achievements from becoming forgotten many of her fans in these past few years have been motivated to do even more. Her tragic murder by a gunman caused emotions in Latino communities similar to those who reacted to Elvis Presley's death and John Lennon's. Selena was a hugely well-known singer for Latinos across North America. But her music touched both the young and old. Selena has been called by certain people as an Latina Madonna, however she's still a fantastic role model. Selena's values of family life offstage and her participation with AIDS awareness campaigns make her a good example.
